North Cascade Meat Producers Cooperative Reaches Out
Members of the North Cascades Meat Producers Cooperative (NCMPC) partnered with NABC at two outreach events. On February 9 the meat cooperative tabled at the 2015 NW Washington Farm-To-Table Trade Meeting held by Sustainable Connections in Bellingham. The event, attended by more than 150 farmers, food buyers, and food system developers, provided the cooperative with an opportunity to share information about membership and their plans to launch North Cascade Meats, a branded wholesale distribution program.
Also in February the cooperative was featured in the Association for Healthcare Food Service (http://www.healthcarefoodservice.org/home) monthly newsletter and was invited to present to AHF membership at the Mirabella Retirement Community. NCMPC members Myrle Foster (Circle F Ranch), and Dean Wesen (Wesen Organic Dairy) presented the cooperative and North Cascade Meats to the audience which included the Executive Chefs for Seattle Children’s Hospital, Overlake Hospital and University of Washington Medical Center.
The North Cascades Meat Producers Cooperative is owned by 36 livestock producers located in Island, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom Counties. The cooperative is in the final stage of its capital campaign and is in the process of finalizing contracts and financing in order to launch its business.
