With the advent of the mad cow scare, pasteurization and various e.coli concerns, it was only a matter of time before the blogosphere focused its attention on Food Safety. Now, thanks to the US government and lawyer Bill Marler of Marler Blog, there are at least two ways to learn more about the latest in Food Safety law and whether or not that Jack in the Box burger is safe to eat (hint: it never is).

Marler’s new blog http://www.foodsafetynews.com/ offers more up to date coverage and dynamic interviews, where as the US government page http://www.foodsafety.gov/ acts more as a reference for food storage and disease information.

Marler himself is a rather interesting character. From his about page:

Bill Marler is an accomplished personal injury and products liability attorney. He began litigating foodborne illness cases in 1993, when he represented Brianne Kiner, the most seriously injured survivor of the Jack in the Box E. coli O157:H7 outbreak. Bill settled Brianne’s case for $15.6 million, creating a Washington state record for an individual personal injury action. He settled several other Jack in the Box E. coli outbreak cases for more than $1.5 million each.

Hero or overly aggressive, Marler knows food safety like the back of his hand and his new food blog is one to watch. Happy and healthy eating.
